(KTNC) - Women in southeast Nebraska can participate in a study at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing.
Dr. Teresa Barry Hultquist is an assistant professor at the UNMC College of Nursing in Omaha. She is leading the study of women 40 to 64 years of age, with the goal of finding an effective way for women to maintain weight after weight loss. (play audio :30)
Dr. Barry Hultquist says many times women lose weight by dieting then gain the weight back when they resume a normal diet. She says balancing calorie intake with physical activity is important to maintaining weight loss, and physical activity can help women keep the weight off.
That physical activity can be more than just the traditional “exercise” regimen. (play audio :25)
Study participants need to be able to walk at least one block unassisted, have Internet access, and be healthy enough for physical activity. Most of the study is conducted online, with participants accessing physical activity guidelines, dietary information, and keeping track of their weight. The study will be conducted in a five-county area of southeast Nebraska – Nemaha, Johnson, Otoe, Pawnee, and Richardson – and is being done in conjunction with the Southeast District Health Department.
