(KAIR) -- The Atchison Public School board plans to form a committee next month to assess the importance and future of athletic programs.
The board Monday night got initial information from the Athletic Department on participation over the past few years.
Superintendent Susan Myers says the committee will examine a variety of angles.

In other business, the board hired Brooke Hughes as Elementary Principal, effective July 1st, replacing longtime Principal Noel Rueb.
Hughes comes from the Gardner-Edgerton school district.
They also approved the outsourcing of bus transportation services to Apple Bus Services of Cleveland, Missouri for roughly 654 thousand dollars, effective July 1st.
Myers says they will now form a committee to hire a maintenance director, which was also a duty of former Transportation Director John Crittendon.
