04/09/2013

(KAIR) -- A Medal of Honor winner will speak to Benedictine students Wednesday morning.

U.S. Army Captain Roger Donlon will be in Atchison and will speak to a group of history classes at ten in the McAllister Board Room, located on the fourth floor of the Ferrell Academic Center.

During the Vietnam War, Captain Donlon directed the defense of his camp on July 6, 1964.

He rallied less than 100 men and held off an attacking force estimated at 800 – 900 men for more than 5 hours.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions, becoming the first recipient of the Medal during the Vietnam War.

College officials say there will be room for members of the community to attend his talk.
