The Mound City Board of Aldermen discussed the condition of streets and the city’s street overlay project this month. Bob Burnett of Snyder and Associates presented a map to Aldermen detailing streets included in the plan and whether they will get a one-inch or two-inch overlay.
Burnett told the council that streets that are cracking could be sealed, but those that are warping and breaking up will need to be resurfaced. He said it would probably be more cost-effective for the city to hire a contractor to do the work rather than purchase the equipment and have city crews do the work.
Burnett said Mo-DOT would do a lot of asphalt work in the area this summer. Mound City officials hope to advertise and bid the local street overlay project at the same time as Mo-DOT.
Burnett also informed the Council that there are no special funds available to replace the Davis Creek Bridge, though he also said Holt County could fund the project with BRO funds.
In other business, Aldermen adopted a revised code of ordinances for the city.
The council reappointed Chris Krueger to another term on the Planning Commission and Russ Northup to another five-year term on the Board of Adjustment.
The council discussed the Building Inspector position. Chris Krueger is currently the Building Commissioner, but as he is the only candidate for Mayor, there is a concern that there may be a conflict of interest following the April election. The council will consider other qualified candidates for the position.
City Clerk Patsy Smith told the council that no bids were received for electrical improvements at the swimming pool. The council will advertise for bids again and will review the bids at the March meeting. The council also agreed to advertise for bids to mo the city parks this summer.
Smith said that Rock Port Cablevision Midwest Data has offered to develop a Mound City website at no cost above the annual domain registration fee.
