(KTNC) - August is National Immunization Awareness Month. In Nebraska, state law requires children receive certain vaccines before they can attend classes.
Southeast District Health Department Director Kay Oestmann says it’s important that children are up-to-date on their immunizations. (play audio :29 “doing that.”)
The Health Department provides regular immunization clinics in communities around southeast Nebraska.
Adults also should be sure they’re vaccinations are current. Oestmann says there’s an increase in the prevalence of whooping cough as the immunization has worn out in some adults. So, she says they are recommending some adults who may be around newborn babies get that vaccine. (play audio :48 “to an infant.”)
