(KLZA)-- An open house was held January 29 in Auburn to meet Kevin Cluskey, the new Director of the Southeast District Health Department.
Cluskey is in the process of moving to Southeast Nebraska from the Kansas City area. His wife is from Falls City and the family hopes to move soon.
The Southeast District Health Department serves Richardson, Pawnee, Nemaha, Johnson and Otoe counties in Southeast Nebraska. He talked about some of the services offered. Cluskey SEDHD provides a lot of community outreach and promotes health lifestyles. Soon they will be working on community health assessments to figure out the health disparities in Southeast Nebraska, and what can be done to make improvements.
One of the recent issues the organization is dealing with is Pertussis or Whooping Cough. Vaccinations are the best way to protect yourself from the virus. If you feel sick or have a sick child, Cluskey says it is a good idea to stay home to keep from spreading the illness.
While Pertussis have been the recent problem, Cluskey says the flu season has also been making the rounds. He calls the flu season slightly above average at this time.
Southeast District Health Department offers a wide array of services. If you have questions you may contact them toll free at 1-877-777-0424 or go to the website, www.sedhd.org.
