(KTNC) - Have you ever wondered what the vase your great aunt gave you – or any other family heirloom or memento – is worth?
You’ll have a chance to find out during the Richardson County Fair. Appraiser Tom Bassett will be at the Humboldt Auditorium from 1:00 till 4:00 Thursday afternoon, and people can bring items to the Auditorium for an entertaining and informative appraisal.
Bassett has 30 years experience as an antique and coin appraiser. He does appraisals for many banks and law firms, and teaches classes on bargain hunting for antiques and coin collecting at Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
He says people who bring items in should get an idea of what it’s worth.
If you have larger items, such as furniture you’d like appraised, Bassett says you should bring a photograph of the item and the dimensions.
Bassett says the value of some items can go up, or down, for various reasons.
Admission to Thursday’s presentation is free. There is a five-dollar charge for each appraisal, with a limit of three items per person.
In 1983, Bassett conducted what is likely the largest antique appraisal in Nebraska state history, when he appraised Pioneer Village in Minden.
