(KTNC) --  The Pawnee City School Board took another step this week towards making energy efficiency upgrades to district buildings.
Superintendent Stephen Grizzle says the board selected Strategic Mechanical Design to be the district’s third-party engineer for any upgrades. The third party engineer is required by law when schools enter into energy agreements. The third-party engineer ensures the energy efficiency upgrades provide the benefits they are supposed to.
The company’s rate is $120 per hour, and the contract is not to exceed $1,500.
The board will hold a special meeting at 7:00 p.m. on March 25 to identify potential projects. The meeting will be open to the public.
In other business Monday, the board acted on Pawnee City Public School Foundation recommendations, including awarding Foundation Scholarships.
The scholarships include up to 19 “Learn to Dream” scholarships and 20 $500 Foundation Scholarships. Grizzle says the Foundation has awarded 10 one thousand dollar scholarships in the past, but decided this year to award 20 $500 scholarships.
The Foundation also provides funds for the district’s Agriculture, Spanish, and Music programs, and $7,000 for printing and postage for the district newsletter.
The School Board set the rate for driver’s education at $225 per student. And the board set the last day of school this spring. The final day for students will be May 20 and the final day for staff is May 21.
