With the 2011-12 school year coming to a close, spring sports season it starting to gear up for playoff time. Well one sport in Kansas already as their state tournament in the books as boy's state tennis tournaments wrapped up this past weekend.
Six area athletes competed in the 3-2-1A state tennis tournament down in Wichita; it was one doubles pairing and four singles.
In the doubles competition juniors, Joe McNish and Garrison Wright of Marysville competed in the action. They fell in their first round matchup 6-4 and 6-4, but responded in their only other match at state getting the win to finish the day 1-1 in state action and finished 14-13 on the year.
Singles action featured the other four of the six area athletes competing at state. The best performance overall in place finish went to that of James Cha of Immaculata, who took home fourth place going 3-2 at state, finishing his season 27-11. He was followed up by Evan Wheeler of Maur-Hill Mount Academy who took home fifth place at state, going 4-1 in action; he finished the season 25-5.
Tyler Taphorn of Marysville finished the day at state going 3-3 in action, good for an eleventh place finish; he finished the season 18-17. Marco Cronenbold, was the other area athlete competing in the singles competition; he went 1-1 in state action winning his second match after losing in the first round, he finished the season 19-7.
