(KAIR) -- An Atchison teen, who remains hospitalized following a rollover injury crash last month, receives a special honor this past weekend, named " Prom King" at Atchison's Maur Hill-Mount Academy.
Johnny Shankman received the honor Saturday night.
Friends of the 18-year-old senior traveled Sunday to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, dressed in their tuxedos, to award him his crown..
Shankman was critically injured in late March when he was riding in the back of a pickup truck that over in Atchison's Jackson Park.
Since that time, Shankman has remained hospitalized, undergoing several surgeries related to his injuries.
Once the all clear is given at the hospital, Shankman's family plans to transfer him to a long-term rehabilitation center as his road to recovery continues.
