Games, prizes, music, dancing, other entertainment, and, of course, walkers raising funds, were all part of Friday night’s Brown County Relay For Life.
29 teams, raising money in the battle against cancer, were in attendance, along with members of the public, taking part in the numerous activities that accompany the annual event.
That happened at the Hiawatha High School track.
Laura Brobst is one of numerous committee volunteers who worked to make this year’s relay possible.
She says, with the number of teams signed on this year, it’s hoped that the monies raised will exceed last year’s final tally(Play Audio)
Despite the fun of the Relay for Life, which began at 6:00 Friday evening, and wrapped up Saturday morning at 6:00, the true meaning for the event is to remember those lost to cancer while celebrating those who fought, and survived the battle.
That time of remembrance came during the traditional luminary Friday night. Candles were again lit beneath bags bearing the names of those who have suffered from cancer.
The Relay for Life is arranged through the American Cancer Society; and, along with the Brown County event, similar relays are held in counties throughout the local area.
