A Highland woman receives probation in a child abuse case.
26-year-old Cassie Collins was recently given a suspended prison sentence in Doniphan County District Court on a charge of aggravated endangerment of a child and placed on one year supervised probation.
Collins pleaded guilty to the felony charge last month.
Her two-year-old daughter was taken to the Hiawatha Community Hospital on April 4th with severe burns and bruises.
After an initial examination, the child was transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, where she was a patient for two weeks.
Her 25-year-old boyfriend, Brandon Mottin of Lancaster, is charged with aggravated battery in the case.
He pleaded “ not guilty” last week to the charge and a jury trial is tentatively scheduled to begin August 22nd.
Mottin remains in the Doniphan County Jail on $100,000 bond.
