Citizens in Atchison County will see a new fee come property tax time.
County Commissioners finalized amendments to resolution 2012-1345 late Wednesday morning in their regular meeting to establish a cap for a solid waste fee for residences and non-residences.

The 72 dollar non-residential unit is based on 26 cubic yards per unit.
The resolution will charge 72 dollars for each unit thereafter.
This also means the rates are eligible to be reduced before the final budget is passed.
County Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen wanted to make things clear that condition is why he supports this resolution.

As this fee gets implemented, appeals the first year will go before Commissioners, with the goal to have
Solid Waste Manager Matt Dorssom handling the appeals in future cycles.
Dorssom believes that’s important in the first year of implementation.

There will also be special designations for entities as non-residenences such as section eight housing and Benedictine College.
