An annual celebration returns to the Holton area Saturday, as “The July Jubilee” will again bring a full afternoon and evening of events to Jackson County.
Sponsored by the Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director Jamie Claycamp says the festivities will again take place at Banner Creek Reservoir, just west of Holton(Play Audio)
Once the gates open at 3:00 Saturday afternoon, activities will run until 10:00. That's when the night sky will be illuminated with the sight of fireworks.
Prior to their launch, musical entertainment will be heard, including Tyler Ahlgren at 5:00, followed by the Randel Stueve Band.
At 8:00, headliners Joey and Rory will take the stage. The nationally known husband and wife duo are based in the Nashville area, but Rory grew up in the local region, saying Saturday's appearance will serve as a homecoming of sorts(Play Audio)
While the music and fireworks are prime parts of “The July Jubilee,” numerous other activities will also be featured, including boating, swimming, and disc golf.
Those attending will also have a chance to see firsthand the new, and expanding Banner Creek Science Center, which will be open from 1:00 Saturday afternoon until 10:00 that night.
Tickets can be purchased for ten dollars at the Chamber of Commerce office, in downtown Holton, as well as at Denison State Bank, the Farmers State Bank, Holton National Bank and Diamonds By Design, in both Holton and Topeka.
Children 10 and under get in free.
Holton won't be the only local area celebrating Saturday, as the City of Seneca will hold their Independence Day ceremonies that evening.
Set to happen at the Spring Creek Golf Course, activities get underway at 5:00, including, for a free will donation, a hog roast dinner, hay rack rides, face painting, and a bounce house.
Once the daylight fades to evening, and the night time begins to settle in, a professional fireworks display will light up the sky in honor of the holiday.
Meanwhile, due to extreme weather that rolled through the area last weekend, the Community of Goff postponed the fireworks portion of their 60th annual Independence Celebration until this Saturday night at dusk.
