(KNZA)--A 35-year-old Mayetta man is arrested Saturday following the report of a domestic incident at the Holton Wal-Mart store; but, further investigation reveals what authorities are identifying as a prior violent incident at another location, involving two female victims, one identified as a five year old girl, which led to the call from the store.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says the case began with the call from Wal-Mart around 6:00 Saturday evening, leading to the arrest of Brian Eugene Vaught, taken into custody for domestic violence and resisting arrest.
However, as investigators began to piece together the details, they learned that Vaught, earlier on Saturday, allegedly held a woman and daughter captive at his residence, just north of Mayetta.
Morse says it's believed that Vaught threatened the woman and child with loaded firearms, and strangled the woman until she was unconscious at least two times.
However, the woman was able to escape, making her way to Wal-Mart where staff called 911.
A search warrant was executed at the residence Monday where, Morse says, several firearms, ammunition, and other evidence was recovered.
Vaught was then arrested again, this time on charges of attempted first degree murder, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated intimidation of a victim and aggravated weapons violations.
Vaught is held in the Jackson County Jail with bond set at 500-thousand-dollars.
