Plea Negotiations Underway in Brown Co. Attempted Murder Case

( KNZA )--Plea negotiations are underway in a Brown County attempted murder case.
District Judge John Weingart today ( Monday ) granted a request by 24-year-old Matthew Hermreck of Lancaster for a continuance of his arraignment to allow him more time to consider a plea deal and talk to his family about it.
His arraignment was rescheduled for September 10th.
Hermreck is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated endangerment of a child and aggravated burglary.
He is accused of brutally beating a Horton woman at her residence on the night of May 2nd.
The victim was hospitalized at the K-U Medical Center in Kansas City following the incident.
The victim’s three-year-old daughter also suffered injuries in the attack and was treated at the Horton Community Hospital.
Hermreck remains in the Brown County Jail on one million dollars bond.
