(KAIR) -- A high speed chase that began near Topeka Tuesday morning leads to a fiery end and an arrest in southern Jefferson County.
The chase began when a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper tried to stop the pickup outside of Topeka because its tag numbers and tail lights were covered.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig, his deputies joined in the chase.
He says the pursuit stretched through a majority of the county on U-S 24 with speeds reaching as high as 110 miles and hour, and came to a conclusion south of the highway near Williamstown when a deputy bumped the vehicle off the road, causing it to end up in a field and catch fire.
The suspect, Kyle Pearson of Topeka, escaped with minor injuries. The fire caused the truck to burn down to its shell.
Herrig says no officers were injured and the patrol car received minor damage.
Pearson was booked in the Jefferson County Jail on the charge of attempted aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, possession of stimulants, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended..
