(KTNC) - The Richardson County Sheriff’s Department is alerting the public to a phone scam that’s circulating in the county.
According to the Sheriff’s Department people are receiving calls claiming they have won a Mercedes vehicle in a sweepstakes, but in order to receive the vehicle, they have to send a large amount of cash to the caller.
The callers also claim that someone is on their way to the person’s residence with a vehicle loaded with the Mercedes and a prize winning of a large amount of cash.
When asked, the caller refuses to give a callback number, and authorities say the caller is very persistent.
If you receive such a call, the Sheriff’s Department says under no circumstances should you send money to anyone calling with this or similar offers, and you should not give personal information to anyone over the phone.
