(KAIR)--After a nearly two month long search, Atchison County has hired a new County Appraiser.
Commission Chair Bill Pohl says Melissa Crane was selected to fill the role, previously held by Jim Lampe, who retired in June. He says that “she is very well qualified. She worked for appraisers and counties and she worked for the state. We had three good candidates, we had one from within, and we had a gentleman from Wyandotte County, but we just thought that Melissa had the most credentials and the most experience in what we needed.”
Pohl says the position comes with many responsibilities. The County Appraiser “valuates the commercial property and they valuate residentials. They go out and measure new constructions. They just keep on top of all that kind of stuff...if there are appeals, someone thinks their taxes are too high, she will have to go and pull comps up...how she came up with that value.”
Crane's first day on the job is September 28th, though Pohl says it is possible she may come in a day or two earlier to get acquainted with staff.
