Atchison County Commissioners to Act on Several Items Monday
02/02/2012

Atchison County Commissioners will have a full slate of discussion and action on several policies in this Monday’s meeting.

In Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners finalized language on two employee handbook policies that would limit use of smaller county property and prohibit use of county equipment for personal use.

The policy will also prohibit the use of wireless electronic devices for text or reading while in county vehicles, and discourage any use of wireless electronic devices, which may include smart phones, iPads, kindles.

The current policy on electronic devices was instituted before any of those things existed.

Commissioners held off on action Wednesday to wait for further feedback from department heads, which they said has been minimal so far.

Commissioners will look to address a shortfall issues in the joint communications portion of the current budget.

Commissioner Jeff Schuele says the funding formula for this has been inconsistent for a few years, largely due to its dependency on sales tax revenue.

Commissioners will meet with Joint Communitations Department Monday to address the issue.

Commissioners Wednesday also discussed current policy on burn permits.

Schuele says the policy says current burn permits are indefinite after they are issued, with no address on them and they have no specifics on where permit holders can burn at.

Commissioners will meet with Emergency Management Director Lori Chew Monday to discuss this, as well has the possibility to give her permanent authority to issue burn bans on the county when Commissioners are not in session.
