Looking to responded off a heartbreaking loss in overtime in their semifinal game, the Wetmore Cardinals took on the Ingalls Bulldogs, who also loss their semifinal by one point. Ingalls would get out to a 12-0 start in the first quarter, with the first points for Wetmore not coming until about four minutes into the contest. The Cardinals from then on would have to try and mount a comeback throughout the game and would make multiple runs to get the game within single digits, but would ultimately fall short of the comeback, falling 55-42 to Ingalls.
After a 21-7 first quarter margin in favor of Ingalls, Wetmore would close the lead to within 12 points at the half. The Cardinals would make runs in the second half, but they would be counter by runs for Ingalls. Both teams finished with two players in double figures. For the Bulldogs it was senior forward, Taylor Bleumer leading the way with a double-double, 17 points and 17 rebounds, while senior guard, Janae Droste added 15 points and five rebounds.
For the Cardinals the shooting woes continued from the floor as the shot 28.9% from the floor and unfortunately it allowed Ingalls to establish their lead, which would hold up. Senior guard/forward combo, Nichole Boden lead the Cardinals in scoring for the night with 17 points, while junior point guard, Alayne Noe hit three three's and 7-8 free throws to add 16 points. As the two accounted for 33 of the 42 points for Wetmore in the game.
Wetmore Lady Cardinals finish the season with a 22-4 record, making the state tournament for the third time in school finish after winning the sub-state crown with a win over B&B, finishing the season off taking home a fourth place in Hays. The Cardinals enjoyed one the best season in school history with their 22-4 record, winning seven more games than the previous year, going 11-1 in Twin Valley League play good enough to finish second place in the league. They also took second place in the Twin Valley League tournament, as well. All throughout the season they were lead by the core group of four seniors, Nichole Boden, Kelsey Henry, Lindsey Hughes and Kaitlyn Bloom, as they finish off their Wetmore Cardinal careers with a 22-4 season and a fourth place finish at state with their team.
