Another one of the bridges on U-S 59 is set to be replaced in the distant future as part of an improvement program by MODOT.
The draft 2013-2017 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program that lists transportation projects planned by state and regional planning agencies for fiscal years 2013 through 2017 (July 1, 2012 through June 30, 3017).
Included in the project is a bridge on 59 four miles south of Saint Joseph that goes over Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks.
In the last 10 years, great progress has been made to improve Missouri's transportation system, due largely to funding from Amendment 3 and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
In Northwest Missouri, the amount programmed for the Northwest District's Five year program is $175 million, which includes resurfacing approximately 750 lane miles of roads, replacing 10 bridges, and 15 bridges receiving new decks.
