The game plan moving forward in the next few months on solid waste was the key topic in Monday night’s joint Atchison City-County meeting.
Commissioners heard a data presentation from intern Chase Brunick on how many entities are eligible to be given the proposed solid waste fee.
He says he tabulated a total of five thousand 910 residential properties and 525 non-residential in the County.
They agreed that no one was exempt to the proposed fee, even government entities.
However, officials plan to meet with officials from the two expected largest waste producers, Bradken and MGP to discuss how much they produce.
For non-residential properties, they determined an average generation of 26 cubic yards a year.
The proposed fee is tentatively 72 dollars per 26 cubic yards for non residential.
For residential, County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says it’s still up in the air.

Commissioners must implement a fee by July 1st.
County Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen wanted to re-emphasize that the proposed fee is not a tipping fee.
The city still has a goal to go live with the new trash and recycling system in Atchison by May 1st of next year.
Commissioners also set a tentative date of November 17th in Effingham to hold the first known Fall Summit for all city governments, county commissioners and legislators.
