(KAIR) -- Three companies are vying for the Atchison County recycling contract.
During Monday morning’s bid opening, three companies bid for recycling services: Deffenbaugh, Waste Management and RSP Inc of Horton.
Deffenbaugh and Waste Management also bid for solid waste services.
County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says there are several things that must be taken into consideration before a decision can be made.

Commissioners hope to vote on a provider sometime next week.
They also heard concerns from the Walnut Township Fire District Three.
The fire district is looking to file a petition to get the remainder of the township in their district.
Schuele says they are looking for the best option tax-wise.

The fire district must now present a petition with 10 percent of the township citizen’s signatures for the merger.
If they get the signatures, it would not take effect until 2013.
