Help for SE Nebraska Residents to Repair or Purchase a Home
10/10/2012

(KTNC) - Homeowners and prospective homeowners in southeast Nebraska may qualify for assistance to rehab their home or buy a new home, thanks to funds that Southeast Nebraska Community Action received through the Department of Economic Development.
SENCA has received a total of 800-thousand dollars in Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Funds for two projects.
One award is 400-thousand dollars for an Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation program.  The program aims to help 14 homeowners in Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties who earn at or below 80-percent of the area median income fix deficiencies in their homes.
SENCA Housing Development Director Angie Anholtz explains what the rehab projects can include.  (play audio  :39  “on that home.”)
Individual rehab projects are capped at 24-thousand dollars.
SENCA has also received 400-thousand dollars to help 15 first-time homebuyers purchase existing or newly constructed single-family homes.  Anholtz says the homebuyer assistance program is available in seven southeast Nebraska counties – Cass, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, and Sarpy.  (play audio  :40  “affordable to them.”)
The maximum amount of home purchase assistance is 15-thousand dollars per applicant, with up to 15-thousand in rehab assistance available to those who purchase existing homes.
The awards to homeowners are a combination of grants and loans.  Anholtz says the homebuyer assistance is in the form of what’s called a deferred market rate loan.  (play audio  :28   “any payback.”)
