(KTNC) - About two dozen people attended a meeting last Thursday in Reserve to discuss forming a neighborhood watch in rural areas of Richardson and Brown Counties.
The meeting was called in response to an ongoing problem of thefts in rural areas of the two counties and included representatives from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Richardson County Sheriff's Department, and Brown County Commission.
Authorities offered advise to people at the meeting on ways to avoid having their property stolen, or of ways to increase the chance of apprehending thieves if they do strike.
That advice includes installing surveillance cameras, reporting suspicious vehicles, and posting no trespassing signs. Authorities said much of the theft is tied to drug use.
Another neighborhood watch meeting is scheduled Tuesday evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the Falls City Senior Citizen’s Center at 221 West 16th Street.
