02/08/2013

(KAIR) -- A 28-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man facing multiple charges in Jefferson County stemming from a recent two-county chase could undergo a competency evaluation.

The request was made on behalf of Joshua Hance earlier this week in Jefferson County District Court.

A status hearing has been scheduled for March 7th.

Hance was taken into custody January 28th after a chase ensued following a traffic stop near Grantville when Hance allegedly pointed a handgun at the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper before taking off.

He was later apprehended after 15 minutes in the Oakland area in Topeka.

Hance is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, interference with law enforcement, theft, reckless driving and driving left of center.

Officers later learned that the car Hance was driving was stolen and a handgun was recovered beside the car after the chase.

He remains in Jefferson County Jail on 100 thousand dollars bond.
