KDOT Proposes Mainentance Takeover to Atchison Co
04/18/2013

(KAIR) -- The Kansas Department of Transportation would like Atchison County to  take over maintenance a portion of one of their state highways in the county.

The offer is for the county to take over maintenance of around three miles of K-74 highway from Potter to U.S.73.

KDOT is prepared to offer roughly 200 thousand dollars per lane mile for the one-time transaction.

LeRoy Koehn with KDOT says this is part of an initiative to turn over parts of less traveled highways to the local level. (Play Audio)

Issues arose about planned KDOT projects on or near K-74 highway- including a bridge renovation in 2015 and a funded overlay project.

The discussions are in their preliminary stage and a KDOT rep plans to come back with answers to questions submitted Wednesday by Commissioners.
