(KAIR)--Almost twice the number of Kansans applied for concealed carry handgun permits last year than the year before according to a press release from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt. More than 24,000 residents applied for the permits in 2013.
Schmidt says that Kansans are exercising their second amendment rights more than ever, and are taking advantage of the Kansas Conceal carry law.
The number of applications received during the 2013 calendar year was more more that had been received in any previous year since 2006. During the month of December alone, the Attorney General's office received 1,036 applications. The applications are being processed in an average of 30 days.
According to the release, the concealed carry licensing program was enacted by the Legislature in 2006 over the veto of then-Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
