(MSC News)--A September 25th preliminary hearing is now scheduled for the pair charged in connection with the death of a 1-year-old Saint Joseph child.
That follows a Buchanan County court appearance Tuesday morning for 59-year-old Roy Kenneth Miller, who's charged with felony abuse of a child resulting in death.
The boy's mother, Sasha Lizar, appeared by video conference. She's charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
KQ2-TV reports prosecutors attempted to deny bail for Miller, but the judge ruled against the request, keeping his bail at $100,000. Lizar's bail is set at $25,000.
The child will be laid to rest Wednesday, and despite her pleas to attend her son's funeral, Lizar will remain in custody.
The TV station cites court documents that allege Lizar used meth while caring for her son.
A probable cause statement alleges that Miller shook the boy violently, leading to brain trauma that resulted in death.
The child died August 27th at a Kansas City hospital, the day of his first birthday.
