(KLZA) What started more than half a decade ago as discussion on how to improve the ball parks in Falls City, becomes a dream realized on Sunday with a Grand Opening celebration of the Fiedler Family Ball Complex.

It’s all hands on deck today and Saturday as Turf Solutions Group attempts to make up for delays due to the recent rains.

Project committee member Brian Poppe says while the fields are actually ready for play,  some of the work around the fields has been delayed by the recent weather.

One of the early estimates for the project carried a price tag in excess of $2.3 million. After contacting Turf Solutions and altering the plan the price tag for the work will come in around $1.8 million.  Falls City area residents,  former residents and local businesses stepped up to the plate to make donations that are enabling the project to become a reality.  Poppe said it's truly been a community project.

Committee member Rod Vandeberg will serve as the master of ceremonies Sunday.  Among those to be recognized are the Richardson Foundation for a $400,000 gift from the Fiedler Family;  Others to be honored include Ed and Sandra Hartman;  Southeast Nebraska Communications; F & M Bank; the Rod Vandeberg Family each of whom will have one of the fields named for them;  also Merle and Trula Bachman; Richardson County Bank and Trust and John and Amy Morehead for their contributions to the field at Grandview Park.

Sunday’s events, which will begin at 2 o'clock,  will include opening comments, a ribbon cutting, first pitches on each ball diamond and cake.

The public is encouraged to attend.
