Peru State Gains 10-year Accreditation

Peru State College has had its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools extended for the next 10 years. The college announced the continuation this week.
The Higher Learning Commission recommended that Peru State’s status be reviewed again in another 10 years, the maximum time possible between reviews. College officials note that only 30-percent of all colleges and universities accredited by the HLC require no follow-up.
In a press release, Peru State President Dan Hanson credited the hard work of the college’s faculty and staff over the past decade in helping the school meet the HLC’s accreditation criteria.
Hanson cited a few of the college’s successes over the past decade. Those include a 55-percent growth in enrollment; a $55 million plus investment in campus infrastructure; a partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Rural Health Opportunities Program and Public Health Early Admissions Student Track; ranking by U.S. News and World Report as second in the nation for value for out-of-state students; and a revitalized honors program.
Hanson also noted the creation of the one rate any state program; development of an Institute for Community Engagement; the Distinguished Speaker Series; and the development of the Student Engagement Enhancement Initiative.
Peru State College has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1915. The HLC is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States. It accredits approximately 1,100 institutions of higher education in a 19-state region.
