Hundreds of citizens gathered at Warnock Lake in Atchison and enjoyed music as they waited along with thousands more surrounding the region witnessing the annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration.
Thousands of dollars of fireworks were shot off by the Atchison Lions Club, which were donated by several businesses and individuals.
Melissa Brooke was one of the hundreds in attendance Wednesday evening.
The Atchison native says it’s a common tradition for her.

The display went on for around 45 minutes, but a slight malfunction happened toward the end of the show.
Atchison Fire Chief Mike McDermed describes the mishap.

McDermed appreciated the assistance and says Shannon Township fire pickups were essential to be able to drive closer for a quick extinguish after a short flare up with no injuries reported.
Lancaster held a similar fireworks display for the holiday.
They also held a short parade and handed out free homemade ice cream.
