Adult Sized Babies Haunted the Parade Spectators

(KNZA)--98 years of Halloween was celebrated in Hiawatha Wednesday.

Held under the theme “It’s the End of the World As We Know It,” the annual Halloween frolic was a near all day affair, including a costume contest, followed by the afternoon’s traditional Children’s Parade, which brought out numerous parade entrants as well as spectators.

Once the afternoon turned into evening, excitement mounted, as Oregon street was lined with spectators awaiting the evening’s grand parade.

Just prior to the entries making their way down the parade route, the annual Halloween Queen Ceremony was held at the grandstand.

Our own L.J. Trant and Doug Weinberg served as the emcees(Play Audio)

Of the 16 contestants, three came out on top in three categories, starting with Miss Congeniality(Play Audio)

Miss Tonganoxie Hunter Cook is the daughter of Andy and Marcia Cook, and is a senior at Tonganoxie High School.

After she received her applause, and recognition, it was time to name 1st Runner Up(Play Audio)

Miss Holton Elizabeth Allen is the daughter of Aaron and Erika Allen, and is a senior at Holton High School.

Then, last year’s Queen stood at the grandstand, ready to hand off her crown once Weinberg announced this year’s winner(Play Audio)

Miss White Cloud Brynn Wright is the daughter of John and Michelle Wright and a senior at Hiawatha High School.

Once the ceremony concluded, the parade began, as spectators, some packed six deep along the route, cheered on 51-plus entries, along with marching bands representing schools across the region, as downtown Hiawatha was alive with the playful spookiness of the Halloween Holiday.
