( KNZA )--The White Cloud Post Office will remain open, but with reduced office hours.
According to the Kansas Chief, about 40 people attended a public meeting Monday in the Doniphan County community where the results of a survey mailed to local postal service patrons were revealed.
Kevin Billings, manager of post office operations, said 218 surveys were mailed out, with only 83 of them returned. Of those, Billings said 88 percent supported a realignment of office hours.
Billings said being proposed is for the post office to be open for customer service four hours daily instead of the current eight hours.
The proposed hours of operation are 9 to 1 Monday through Friday. Currently, the office is open from 8:30 to 12:30 and from 1 to 4 daily.
Billings indicated the post office will probably remain open for customer service one hour on Saturday mornings, possibly from 9:30 to 10:30.
A decision on the realignment of hours is expected within 30 days, and finalized by mid-January.
