11/16/2012

(KLZA) The Richardson and Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department’s worked together on a stolen pickup case resulting in recovery of the pickup and the arrest of a Michigan man.
About 1 o'clock Wednesday morning the Richardson County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a suspicious person in Stella.  Two deputies were dispatched but found no one.
Later Dennis Lockard made contact with this person at his gas station.  The individual told Lockard he was selling steaks which Lockard doubted and the suspect fled on foot.
About 5:30 a-m the Sheriff’s Department received a report of a pickup owned by Dillon Watkins of Stella being stolen.  The keys were in the vehicle and there was hunting equipment including a rifle in the pickup.
About 11 a-m Wednesday, a friend of Watkins saw the pickup in Pawnee City.  When the pickup stopped, the friend confronted the suspect, 27 year old Jerome Johnson of Michigan, who fled on foot.
About an hour later, Pawnee County Sheriff Jayme Reed made contact with Johnson and called Richardson County for assistance.  Inspector Roland Merwin went to Pawnee County to help with the case including the recovery of the pickup.
When doing an inventory of the pickup, the rifle, a black Marlin .243 caliber gun was not found.
Johnson was arrested in Pawnee County but is being housed in the Richardson County Jail since Pawnee County does not have a jail.
Johnson is in jail awaiting the filing of formal charges.
