(KNZA)--Thanksgiving is just days away as we head to the traditional gatherings of family, with large meals served in the name of thankfulness.
Several local communities will dine together, holding free public feasts, with everyone welcome to attend.
Among the celebrations is the 29th annual Hiawatha Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
Sponsors for the meal are the Mission Board of the First Baptist Church, and the Melster Family.
That includes Helen Melster who says she is thrilled each year to see what began as a small idea grow into a community-wide celebration of thanks(Play Audio)
The Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served from Noon until 1:00 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center at 210 Lodge Road in Hiawatha.
A similar setup will be found in Seneca, on Thanksgiving day, when the Seneca United Methodist Church serves up a holiday meal.
Held in appreciation for community support of church activities, the dinner will run from 11 in the morning until 1:00 Thursday afternoon in the church basement at 7th and Main Streets.
Deliveries can be phoned in by Wednesday by calling 785-336-3236.
A community dinner will also be held, on Thanksgiving day, in the community of Holton. That will happen from 11 until 1:00 at Saint Dominic’s Parish Hall located at 416 Ohio Avenue in Holton.
A dinner will also be held in Falls City, organized by Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church at 20th and Towle.
Anyone who will be alone on Thanksgiving Day, households who have no other family to be with, want to be part of something meaningful, or are in need, are welcome to take part for free.
