Horton Remains StormReady
11/19/2012

(KNZA)--It's good news for the Brown County community of Horton, which retains its StormReady Community status.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has presented the City of Horton with recertification of the status which remains in place from now through 2015.

Horton first became a StormReady community in 2006, one of only five other communities in the state to hold the title at that time.

In order to retain the title, Horton, like other StormReady cities, has to go through a recertification process every three years to ensure the community is prepared for severe weather events.

The StormReady program began in 1999 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and helps communities with the communication and safety skills necessary to save lives and property before and during a severe weather events.
