Making their fifth straight state basketball tournament appearance, Nemaha Valley jumped to a 15-2 first quarter lead and held a 30-15 margin at halftime. The advantage was 35-28 into the fourth quarter, but Conway Springs (18-5) battled back and made it a one point game in the final :50, after back-to-back turnovers, Alex Hermesch convereted on a three-point-play and then added two free throws to put NV up 49-43 with :27 remaining. The Raiders held on for the 51-46 victory improving to 22-2 on the year and advancing to the state semifinals for the fifth straight season. Hermesch led everyone with 17 points while Creighton Brinker notched 14 points and 11 rebounds. Trent Olberding added 11 for NV who plays Central Heights in the semifinals Friday at 4:45 PM in Hutchison live on 103.9 FM and www.mscnews.net
