( KNZA ) -- A high voltage transmission line that would carry 35-hundred megawatts of wind power from western Kansas to communities in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and points farther east is to pass through northern Kansas.
Mark Lawlor, director of development with Houston, Texas-based Clean Line Energy Partners, updated the Brown County Commission Monday on the proposed Grain Belt Express transmission line.
Lawlor reviewed with commissioners potential routes the transmission line could take through Brown County.
Lawlor says while the transmission line will run through northern Kansas, the exact route hasn’t been determined yet...( play audio )
Lawlor says they hope to make a decision by the middle of next year on a route.
Construction could begin in 2014, once final approval on the estimated two billion dollar project is granted from the Kansas Corporation Commission as well as states of Missouri and Illinois.
Clean Line Energy says the transmission line could carry enough electricity to power 1.4 million homes year.
