(KAIR) -- Karla Long, the Midland Empire Chapter’s Emergency Services Director, will be deployed to New Jersey to provide leadership in Disaster Operation Management.
Karla leaves on Tuesday for a three week assignment and is the 16th local person to volunteer to help with Hurricane Sandy Recovery.
The Red Cross is holding an additional training class for people who wish to volunteer for disaster relief.
The people must be in good health with no medical issues, complete a background check, deploy for a minimum for two weeks and be willing to be flexible, patient and be assigned to tasks as needed because service delivery priorities are ever changing as areas are accessed.
Red Cross pays for the volunteer’s travel to the disaster area and provides meals and a place to stay which may be in a shelter.
The class will be held on Wednesday from nine until three at the American Red Cross building, 401 North 12th Street in St. Joseph.
The number to sign-up (816) 232-8439.
The Red Cross has a need for licensed health and mental health professionals in times of disaster, so please indicate if you are a licensed health professional.
