(KNZA)--The race for the 1st District Kansas Senate seat, expected to be a hard fought battle, didn't disappoint, once the unofficial numbers were tabulated by the Kansas Secretary of State's Office at around 2:00 Wednesday morning.
Those figures indicate a victory for Republican incumbent Dennis Pyle, with the rural Hiawatha farmer retaining his seat with 51% of the vote, or a total of 15-thousand-081, while his Democratic challenger, Steve Lukert, of Sabetha, took 49% of the vote, or a total of 14-thousand-725.
Two area representatives in the Kansas House won re-election Tuesday.
Republican Randy Garber of Sabetha defeated challenger Dennis Stones with 63 percent of the vote to win a second term representing the 62nd District.
Democrat Jerry Henry of Cummings received 59 percent of the vote to defeat challenger Stephen Bodenhausen in his bid for re-election to represent the 63rd District.
Meanwhile, in the race for the 2nd District Congressional seat, Lynn Jenkins was re-elected, with the Kansas Republican defeating her challengers, Democrat Tobias Schlingensiepen and Libertarian Dennis Hawver.
