OPPD Board to Consider Biggest Rate Hike in 10 Years
(KLZA) The Omaha Public Power District is considering a general rate increase of 6.9 percent.
It would be the district's biggest rate increase in 10 years.
Residential rates would rise 7.7 percent. Rates for commercial customers would rise 5 percent and rates for industrial customers would go up 8.5 percent.
The district says the increase, if adopted, would raise residential customer bills an average $7.30 a month.
OPPD spokeswoman Paula Lukowski (loo-KOW'-skee) said Tuesday that OPPD's board is scheduled to discuss the proposal at its meeting Thursday and vote on it Dec. 13.
OPPD is a customer-owned utility that serves more than 352,000 customers in all or parts of 13 counties in eastern and southeast Nebraska.
