(KTNC) - The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board will have four new members next year, following last week’s general election results. The identity of two of the new members is not yet known.
Unofficial results from the November 6th election show Jon Keithley of Falls City was chosen to represent Sub-district 9 and Michael McDonald of Palmyra was elected to represent Sub-district 2. The will be sworn in during the NRD Board’s January meeting.
Current directors Tom White of Falls City and Bill Umland of Palmyra will conclude their service to the Nemaha NRD at the end of the year.
Two other vacancies will be filled after the first of the year.
With his election to the State Legislature, current NRD Director Dan Watermeier will be required to resign his position prior to being sworn in as a State Senator.
The position in Sub-district 4, in and around the Nebraska City area, went unfilled when no one sought election to the position.
The two vacant seats will be filled by appointment. NRD officials say they will likely advertise for those openings after the first of the year.
On a related note, Watermeier will also have to resign his position as representative to the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission. The NRD Board will select a new representative, who must reside within the Nemaha River basin, but does not have to be a board member.
