(KNZA)--A mother from Highland and her Lancaster boyfriend, both accused of playing a role in the scalding of her two year old daughter, are both going to prison, following their sentencing in separate Doniphan County District Court cases.
26-year-old Cassie Collins was sentenced to serve the remainder of a six-month term behind bars for the felony charge of aggravated endangerment of a child.
25-year-old Brandon Mottin received a 40-month prison term on the charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child.
Collins was convicted earlier this year, and sentenced to a suspended six-month prison sentence and placed on one year supervised probation.
However, in July, she was arrested for a probation violation, which led to the new sentence.
The Kansas Chief reports that Collins had originally claimed the little girl was in the bathtub and turned the hot water on, leading to the scalding.
Further investigation revealed that Collins was working when the incident occurred, with the child, at the time, left in the care of Mottin.
The child suffered severe burns and bruises, requiring a two week stay in a Kansas City hospital.
