Accidental Shooting During Hunting Under Investigation

(KAIR) -- A Kansas City, Kansas hunter is recovering from injuries sustained in an accidental shooting after deer hunting near Valley Falls.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department received information from Atchison Hosptial Saturday morning at 11:42 in regards to a hunter having been accidentally shot at the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Public Hunting area West of Valley Falls.

The injured hunter was identified as 51-year-old Michael Gaddis.

Gaddis was hunting alone and finished hunting for the day at 10 that morning.

He was walking back to his vehicle when he was struck in the back of his legs by birdshot from a shotgun.

Gaddis transported himself to the Atchison Hospital where he received treatment for non life threatening injuries.

Officers from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
