Hiawatha Public Works Director Dave Grimm is getting ready for a number of projects this year.
He met with the city commission Tuesday evening seeking approval for the purchase of materials for several projects and to seek bids for others. The commission gave Grimm approval to purchase the tubes and inlets for the 4th Street drainage improvement project at a cost of $22,147. The project will take place in the 400 block of 4th Street from Kansas to Cheyenne Street. Grimm said rock will need to be added when the project begins. The commission also gave Grimm approval to purchase the drainage tile for a project on West Oregon Street at a cost of nearly 48-hundred dollars, and approval to hire Johansen Trucking to the haul the haydite for this summer’s chip and seal work from Dearborn, Missouri to Hiawatha at a cost not to exceed $8,000. Grimm was given approval to seek bids for several other projects--including to mill and overlay Oregon Street....( play audio ) The commission also gave Grimm approval to seek bids for the replacement of about 25-hundred feet of curb and gutter and 24-hundred feet of sidewalk....( continue audio)
Bids will also be sought for the replacement of the 1992 street sweeper, conservation work at the airport farm and mowing of some of the city’s smaller parks.
