Several hundred people attended the 126th Memorial Day Observance at Leavenworth National Cemetery Monday.
The service featured music from the US Air Force "Heartland of America Band Brass In Blue", vocal numbers from local musicians, and remarks from Lt. General David G. Perkins, Post Commander at Ft. Leavenworth.
Retired Lt. Colonel Dallas Eubanks is the Chairman of the Leavenworth National Cemetery Memorial Day Committee.
Eubanks served 21 years in the army, and saw combat in Desert Storm and the Iraq War.

One of those attending Monday's service was retired Marine Colonel Richard Schwartz. Schwartz, who grew up in Leavenworth and now lives in Marion, shares what Memorial Day means to him.

About a dozen veterans groups throughout Leavenworth County helped organize the annual observance.
