USD 377 Examines Social Media Policy
11/13/2012

(KAIR) -- The USD 377 school board may soon place certain restrictions on social media and phone interaction between personnel and students.

The board Monday night discussed a proposal to ban facebook or texting communication between personnel and students.

Currently policy uses language “strongly encouraging teachers to not” use those communication methods.

Superintendent Steve Wiseman says transparency from multiple perspectives is the main reason behind the proposed ban.

Action on this policy could take place as soon as next month.

The board also had discussions to lower the age limit on fitness center use without supervision from 21 to 18.

The board also entered into an agreement to partner with the Atchison Art Association and Benedictine College to teach classes at the elementary school from January through the end of the school year.

The board also heard a fundraiser proposal from baseball coach Justin Sloop and two students to obtain new batting cages at the sports complex.

Wiseman calls the idea a win-win for all parties.
