This month is School Board Recognition Month in most states and several school districts are honoring their board members around the region.
Being a school board member is described by many as the "toughest volunteer jobs in America."
Members usually attend additional meetings and school functions in addition to their day jobs.
One of those board members is Carrie Sowers.
She has been on Atchison’s USD 409 school board for three years and says the long hours are worth it.
SOWERS RT: :16 OC: "…great board."
Sowers describes the most difficult part of being part of the school board.
SOWERS 2 RT: :13 OC: "…for our district."
The Kansas Association of School Boards encourages citizens to thank a board member when you see them around your community.
